Dunes Day 2025

Thanks to over a hundred volunteers, Dunes Day 2025 was a great success!

Every year, members of the Save Our Beach Association (SOBA), our partners with Brazoria County Parks Department, our own Village of Surfside Beach crew, and scores of volunteers throughout the area come together to help mitigate beach erosion by staking down discarded Christmas trees. We especially appreciate the donations of unsold trees from nurseries and home improvement establishments throughout southern Texas!

On Thursday, January 23, 2025, SOBA members spent hours "slinging" trees in a line along the base of the dunes beach. On Saturday, members worked with the County to serve food to over sixty volunteers who staked down the trees. Then, on Friday, January 31, we received a massive load of large trees that members gain helped to unload. These will be "slung" and staked by the Village Beach crew throughout the rest of the month.

These trees will assist in catching blowing sand to help build dunes that were destroyed by Hurricane Beryl. They will be aided by bales of hay purchased and distributed by the Village. The dunes are a vital part of flood and wave action control in a tropical storm or hurricane.

Thank you to all who assisted!
