Meet SOBA Scholarship Winner Marina Wilson

SOBA has announced that the recipient of a $2,000 Paul Bisso Beach Preservation Scholarship will be Marina Wilson of Angleton, Texas.

Ms. Wilson volunteers at Sea Center Lake Jackson as part of her Practicum in Agriculture class. She was also involved in the Junior Naturalist Program, participated in beach clean-up activities through her Future Farmers of America group, and volunteered for over five years at the Brazoria County Fair on the Youth Advisory Committee. She plans to enter Brazosport College and then transfer to Texas A&M Galveston to study Marine Biology.

In her application, Ms. Wilson wrote that “I believe in conservation and preservation of our beaches and want to make a real difference.”

The scholarship is named in honor of Surfside Beach resident Paul Joseph Bisso, an avid surfer who tragically lost his life in a car accident in 2013. He was a graduate of Klein Collins High School in Spring, Texas, and the son of current Surfside Beach Mayor, Gregg Bisso. More information is available on the SOBA website at sobatx.org.
